Readers to Politicians – You’re Not Listening!

A few weeks ago this column focused on the need for citizens who are unhappy with the state of our political and justice systems to speak up about their concerns.

Your opinion can’t be counted if you stay silent, I wrote, or as one of my readers put it, “We now have the government that we have earned but not the government our children deserve.”

Apathetic mainstream voters have allowed a minority of outspoken activists to dominate the national conversation on a myriad of topics: defunding police, immigration, selective prosecutions, federal spending and lots more divisive issues. I urged citizens to get in touch with elected officials so all views can be considered.

Well, judging from the amount of mail I’ve gotten citizens are, indeed, contacting their representatives. The problem? Politicians are ignoring them.

Angry Readers Say Their Emails to Politicians Are Ignored !

“I email my U.S. Senators frequently to encourage them, or at least make them aware that there are other points of view out there,” Sara Karl wrote. “I have not got a response in over a year, not even their form letters.” Karl believes her elected officials are too consumed with reelection to care about what she thinks.

“Same here in N.J.,” wrote L. Grace. “I do get a response, but it is a canned, elitist political speech extolling the vapid virtues of the very thing I am writing against.”

Steve Robel in North Carolina declared that voters absolutely must, “Hold them accountable while they are in office,” he wrote. Robel supports term limits.

Gregstocks2005 emailed to say, “Our government officials both local and federal, are nothing more than echo chambers, busy listening to one another. They are not interested in either their constituents’ voices, or the voices of common people.”

And Reader Thomas Spencer appears ready to give up trying to contact his representatives. “With little or no response from them I know they do what they like. Most of the time I receive an email justifying their actions with the invisible middle finger hidden in the words.” Ouch.

We Have the Government We Deserve – Time to Improve?

So, what’s a citizen supposed to do when their own member of Congress won’t listen or respond? Reader Sally Grave said she wrote directly to the Speaker of the House. “I have tried to contact Pelosi to complain about her actions but because I am not a resident of California I cannot,” she said.

Well, that doesn’t seem right, does it? If Speaker Pelosi controls the House of Representatives shouldn’t she be responsive to all Americans?

A warning to politicians everywhere. Beware. The tide of apathy is lifting, and dismissive treatment has a way of sticking in a voter’s mind on election day.

From Pat Wittorf in Oklahoma: “As for contacting my representatives, I do that with sufficient regularity that I have a mental image of their staff seeing my email address and muttering, ‘Not her again!’”

A defeated Cindy Merrill appears to have given up trying to get someone to listen to her opinions. “We can’t debate,” she wrote. “If we try we’re called racists.”

Shouldn’t a Congressional Leader Respond to Voters?

A Mr. Gato emailed to say, “They know what we want. And too many of them are too corrupt with their own power and egos to care. We must keep speaking out!”

Carl Morris made an intriguing point by suggesting many of us are victims of “learned helplessness.” He wrote, “The public is being trained/gaslighted into feeling like no matter what they do they are wrong and will be punished, so they may as well give full control to someone else.” Never a good idea, I say.

Messages of political dissatisfaction came in from across America. Yet many expressed determination to keep politician’s feet to the fire. From Ohio, Robert Runkle advised, “Even if they ignore you keep writing, calling and emailing. Flood their offices with calls and mail!”

Emailer Texas Patriot Gal wrote, “We didn’t get into this mess in 1 or 2 cycles. It will take time and diligence to get it back on track, but the freedom in the United States of America is worth fighting for and we can make the changes necessary.”

If you are unhappy with the direction the U.S. is taking, get involved. Write, call, demand transparency and a response. And let your politicians know you are a motivated voter.

For the last two weeks, I have used the online forms for the two Georgia senators to tell them to vote no on H. R. 1, For the People Act. When I hit submit, all I get is a cursor circling. Yesterday, I left the page alone for about 30 minutes with no change in status. Today, I made up a name, email address and phone number, used their local office addresses, and hit send. No surprise it went out immediately. I had thought that I was being intentionally blocked and, for me, what I did proves it.
Next up will be a “letter to the editor” of my local paper with a copy to the Epoch Times. I would imagine it is probably very easy for a programmer to put a few lines of code in to block particular email addresses from coming in. Probably easy enough to block a particular IP address as well. I guess that will be next. TALK ABOUT CENSORSHIP!!!!

We must have term limits for every elected office. If 2 terms is good enough for president it should apply to all of them. Term limits for all judges including the Supreme Court is also a good idea.

Most States provide the option to update voter status (party, for example) but not mandatory … but they WILL compare file data and update where appropriate

How can Dimond, in her last paragraph, recommend to keep writing to politicians when she is writing about how we know that’s a waste of time? And writing to them is an exercise in futility and a BIG WASTE OF TIME. Plus, as was pointed out, one wrong word and you’re labeled a racist by the Cancel Culture crowd and you could lose your job. If Dimond truly thinks that writing is meaningful, she should ponder her thoughts a little deeper. We are desperately seeking a way to stop the destruction of our country, but writing to politicians will do nothing towards that goal. I’m losing the country that I love and so many feel the same way.

I used my childhood address in order to contact her. I am appalled at the disconnect she has with her state in all facets…what I see and hear is “I got mine, sorry you don’t like it.” I know that the only way things can change for the better is collectively..no one can hear ONE person , or even a few…it has to be the many. I am a volunteer for Convention of States, which today seems the only true way we can reign in their evil control..Stimulus checks? MY money given back to me as a passive answer to a bigger problem? I pay taxes for them to DO their job FOR us…and I know that in turn all that they “give” us they will find ways to get it back because we OWE them…angry? yes, disappointed , ABSOLUTLEY, saddened by the greed , selfishness and power grabbing politicians who have forgotten what their jobs are…ALL states should join the convention of states as “WE THE PEOPLE” and take back our government…reign them in the only way we truly can. Get rid of lobbyists…make them DO their jobs by conversing with those who pay them..elect them…in my state almost ALL of the representatives I connect with are in agreement that we DO NOT NEED NEW OR MORE TAXES, so why are they pushing so hard for them and shutting us out? Your article nailed it!

What politicians of all stripes failed to understand about Trump is that he genuinely listened to his USA constituents, consulted with experts, thought things through and usually, not always, but usually took effective action to deal with the problem.
I actually contacted several of the 2016 presidential candidates about certain issues that concerned me. He actually started speaking on that issue afterward. The other two ridiculed those who were concerned after Trump started talking about it. Guess which candidate I voted for. Once in office, he then dealt with the issue. No wonder people want him in office, even a lot of Democrats!
My state reps could care less about their constituents outside the very blue major city, and, even then, only care as far as their phony rhetoric can get them re-elected. After that it’s the cash and power grab and whatever illegal activities they can get away with. Politicians like those in my state are what drove people to Trump. We’re fed up with them. Phony listening, graft, illegal activities, anti-American attitudes, failure to do their jobs just won’t cut it anymore. Trump set a new precedent.

    Ron Meyer-Hagen writes:

Why are some promoting cultural, political and legal battles in this country? At the state level we have many states purposely destroying their economies because they know the federal government will bail them out and make our grandchildren pay the bill. Further punishing our children by keeping them out of schools, social activities and sports. Continuing to enforce
lockdowns that the data clearly show are ineffective at curbing the virus but very effective in removing freedoms from the public. They have successfully caused tens of millions to fear reentry into normal life again. At the federal and state level politicians are making or proposing many anti-business laws as well as restricting our country’s competitiveness in this world. Threatening our nation’s energy independence status which is a national security issue.
As Diane Dimond states: “as one of my readers put it, ‘We have the government we have earned but not the government our children deserve.’ [We’ve] allowed a minority of outspoken activists to dominate the national conversation on myriad topics: defunding police, immigration, selective prosecutions, federal spending and lots more divisive issues.” I’d add attacking confidence in our voting system, a necessary pillar for our democracy. These activists are fueling race wars and cancelling our great nation’s history and culture, attacking all aspects of our identities and
    freedoms.
What is the big picture here? When you put all this together there is only one conclusion: they are literally trying to destroy America. This goal is abundantly evident. There are some number of strategic planners and likely many more unwitting complicit enactors. The next question is why?
My wife connected the dots on this: “because they hate God.” America was founded on Judeo-Christian values and is the city-on-a-hill. As long as America exists it testifies of Judeo-Christian values and the goodness of God. For people who hate God, America must be destroyed.
This insight should be alarming to all Americans who love their great country. For those of us who love God, it is especially alarming. However, we can have peace because we know the truth and who is in control. Maybe God will intervene and influence the exposure and downfall of these strategic planners. That would be exciting and delightful to see. Can all of us Americans who love our country turn this great country around?
